“We call her the boss lady at my community center, because she goes around and checks on everyone and knows who has food for her. She has become very spoiled. We have seen her go through a transformation in a short time, her anxiety has reduced and she is starting to feel comfortable that no one is going to harm her. It’s time for her to be with her forever home. Indigo deserves to be the only dog and after having babies for everyone, it’s her turn to be someone’s baby. Whoever adopts her will have a great companion and helper no matter what you are doing, she wants to help and check out what you are doing. Indigo loves to help in the kitchen because she knows I drop things, she will eat any veggies/fruit, including fresh/raw asparagus, brussel sprouts and squash and actually prefers this over her dog food. She is the perfect little dog.”

Story
At long last, Indigo is ready for her very own forever home! She was surrendered to FBRN with her fur-brother, but they are better behaved individually and will be adopted separately. Indigo is looking for a family who can provide a safe and loving environment as she continues to work on her anxiety issues and resource guarding tendencies.
Indigo arrived in foster care very anxious, but has started to relax with daily medication and the consistent routine and care from her foster family. Even with very slow introductions, Indigo has never truly integrated with the resident dogs in her foster home. Because of her high prey drive, she will not be placed in a home with cats or other small pets. Indigo is on the lookout for a forever home where she will be the only pet and the apple of her person’s eye!
When it comes to spending time with her people, Indigo is ecstatic. She’s happy to join if you’re going somewhere, or just as content staying home chilling with you on the sofa. Her favorite activity at home is snuggling with foster mom in bed in the mornings before work. Running a close second is snuggling on the couch in the evenings while watching TV. Indigo loves to be totally covered up with blankets, but beware – you’ll be able to hear her snoring from the other room! Indigo also enjoys hanging out with the teenagers in her foster home – she follows them everywhere – but, younger children may not be a good fit.
Indigo’s health is generally very good. She has no known allergies, no need for a special diet, and takes only her anxiety medication. She is housebroken and hasn’t had a single accident while in foster care. She’s also crate trained and behaves well when left home alone for a few hours at a time either in her crate or a penned area.
When Indigo is home, she loves to play. Her stuffed pig is a favorite and her red Kong toys are always in the mix too! She also loves being outside and running back and forth in her fenced yard barking at neighbor dogs. With a little positive and consistent training, we think she could learn how to overcome her bad habits. Despite have a few not-so-lady-like habits, Indigo is a wonderful companion who just wants to be with her person all the time. Helping, of course! Kitchen help (to Indigo) means grabbing anything that is accidentally dropped on the floor, so if you’re in need of a sous chef to sample your ingredients, then look no further!
We think Indigo would do well in just about any type of home environment. She walks well on leash and could get her exercise and potty breaks that way. However, she really enjoys running in a securely fenced area so a fenced yard would make her happiest. The most important thing is for Indigo to have a person who is understanding of her triggers and willing to patiently and consistently continue her training so that she can be a happy, well-balanced member of the family.
Indigo goes to work every day with her foster mom and would love to do the same with her forever family. Indigo enjoys her ride to work every day and often sits by the car door waiting to get in! At work, she happily greets the folks who come in and is very well behaved. Indigo does great as the only dog at the office, and she’s even attended a few small fundraising events where she was the only dog. Indigo would NOT do well at a dog park or larger community event. Busy environments with many people and other dogs are simply too much for Indigo.
Here’s what Indigo’s foster mom has to say, “We call her the boss lady at my community center, because she goes around and checks on everyone and knows who has food for her. She has become very spoiled. We have seen her go through a transformation in a short time, her anxiety has reduced and she is starting to feel comfortable that no one is going to harm her. If you are ready to open your home and your heart to this loving girl, please fill out an application and start planning a trip to Central Oklahoma. FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations and we do not set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
