Special Needs
“At first glance, Lewis may appear to be a diamond in the rough, but he is pure treasure! The love he gives far exceeds the amount of attention and care he requires. He’s a tiny nugget, but mighty in the snuggle game. He loves big and doesn’t ask for much in return. He suffers from a touch of megaesophagus, but his care is quite simple with the addition of a Bailey chair. Sometimes he snores a little loud, but it’s a sweet reminder of how far he’s come in life and he fought that hard to be by your side. His forever family will be the luckiest family. He will steal your heart immediately and you’ll forget what it was ever like to lead a life without the unconditional love Lewis will give. Give him a few soft blankets and your lap to lay in and he will be the happiest little guy in town.”
We’re very happy to welcome Lewis to the available page! Lewis came to FBRN when his former family could no longer provide the care he needed. We’re happy to help and know the perfect forever home is out there for this handsome little cream-puff.
Personality-wise, Lewis qualifies as an imp! He’s a happy camper and a mischief maker, and as tiny as he is, he can move baby gates and sneak off for some unattended play time! Lewis is generally submissive, but he’s no pushover when food or his favorite toy, a stuffed alligator, are involved. Lewis will not be bullied and a separate eating area from his furry housemates is needed. Lewis enjoys being part of the pack and spending time with his canine siblings, but also likes his alone time. In true Frenchie style, Lewis really enjoys his humans and will follow them around the house or gladly sit on the couch for snuggle time.
Health-wise, Lewis has megaesophagus which is also called mega E. To avoid regurgitation, Lewis must sit in a Bailey chair, which keeps him in an upright position, for about 20 minutes immediately after eating or drinking. Lewis takes supplements every day for liver support, but doesn’t require a special diet. He does need someone who can be with him while he’s eating and drinking and then help keep him quiet in his chair afterwards. Many times, this means sitting with him while he’s in the Bailey chair rather than simply being in the area.
Lewis would thrive in a home with someone who can provide the time and attention he needs. He would do great with someone who works from home or can be home most of the time. While Lewis could live almost anywhere, he likes a fenced yard and would enjoy a home with a secure area for sunbathing. Lewis needs minimal exercise due to his Mega E so walking around the house and yard are all he requires! A forever family with previous Frenchie or mega E experience would be ideal.
While older, dog-savvy children would likely be fine, an adult-only home is preferred. Lewis currently lives with dogs and cats and would be fine in a forever home with more docile, submissive canine companions. Lewis is house broken and travels well. He might do well in an office setting; but would likely need a Bailey chair for the office as well.
Here are a few words from Lewis’ loving foster mom, “At first glance, Lewis may appear to be a diamond in the rough, but he is pure treasure! If you’re looking for a little boy with lots of love to share, Lewis could be your forever Frenchie! If you’re a great fit and have the time and expertise to care for this handsome fella, please submit an application today. Then be prepared for a trip to central Tennessee if you’re selected because FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations and we do not set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
Lewis has brachycephalic airway syndrome. He had nares and palate resection on 11.16.2021. He must wear a harness when going for walks, never a collar or choke chain.
Lewis is a resource guarder and should be fed separately from other dogs.
Lewis has severe regurgitation and must sit upright after eating and/or drinking. Vet was unable to confirm or rule out megaesophagus.
Lewis has a history of elevated liver enzymes and should remain on daily liver support supplement.
Oh Louis, you are the spitting image of Sonny, who was Gomez’s (my first Frechie) sire. Hoping all your issues resolve or become less difficult.
