“Melina is an absolute love bug. She’s always happy to see you, puts her utter trust in you and repays you with all her love she can muster out of her little body. She’s had a rough start to living and carries that with her but she is so grateful for everything she gets to experience now. She loves blankets, snuggling in the bed, piling into your lap while you watch TV, and every squeaker/stuffie toy available. She is ready for a human to call her own, a bed that’s just for her and to start her journey in her furever home. Little Miss Melina deserves all the good things this life has to offer and she will be worth every effort you make to help her experience these new adventures.”

Story
Melina was dealt a bad hand and had a crummy start in this place called life, which makes her even more deserving of an awesome fresh start! Recently released from her breeding duties, Melina arrived in FBRN care with some breathing concerns and regurgitation issues. With the awesome vet team at hand, her first surgery was scheduled and she was spayed. Shortly after, she underwent a second procedure and had airway surgery which greatly improved her breathing and regurgitation.
Melina has a pretty mellow attitude and she’s happy-as-a-clam cuddling up beside her person. She loves to give kisses! Melina tends to get nervous easily, so a slower calmer environment would suit her best. She tends to get nervous around loud noises and quick movements so older children and quieter households are best.
Melina absolutely adores playing with toys! Balls, squeaky ones, stuffies, bones, basically all of them! And she loves soft fluffy dog beds (make sure they are washable!). Melina also enjoys being the fashion diva of the neighborhood and is happy to model any stylish sweater or coat!
Melina tolerates her foster siblings, and we think she would be fine as an only dog. She might share a cuddle once in awhile with her foster fur-siblings, but she’s shown some irritation with another Frenchie friend and displayed some resource guarding around food. Melina must never be left alone when feeding if other dogs or children are present.
Melina is crate trained. She will go to her crate with some coaxing and a light snack! She currently eats all of her meals in her crate. Potty training, on the other hand, has been a challenge. Melina will need a patient forever person who understands that consistency is key. Bonus points for having washable dog bedding and easy to clean flooring!
Melina’s perfect home would be one where she can be surrounded with love. Because she tends to sing the song of her people (loudly) when her person leaves, an apartment may not be the ideal home environment. Melina needs a person who will provide structure and consistent routines and a home that will provide her with a safe and secure environment. She doesn’t require much physical exercise, but would enjoy a nice fenced area to hang out.
Her foster mom says this about Melina, “Melina is an absolute love bug.
If Melina sounds like the perfect fit for you, then please apply for her today! Then get ready for a road trip to Delaware as this gal is not suited for flying.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
About Melina
Melina is a resource guarder so must never be around small children. She must be monitored during feeding and when toys are present. A slow intro is required if there are other dogs in the home.
Melina is housebroken, but has occasional accidents in the house.
Melina would benefit from obedience training, especially to address how she nips during play.
Melina has a Grade 2/4 bilateral luxating patella that is asymptomatic at this time and must be monitored.
