About Reef
FBRN’s fluffy little goofball has made his way to the available page, and in record time! Reef has been having a blast with his foster family, but he is ready to move on to his forever one now. This sweet one-year old boy has an affectionate nature that will win anyone over. Reef is a people pleaser, and gets along with everyone he meets…humans, other dogs, and even kids. He shouldn’t be around cats, birds, or other small animals though, as his prey drive is strong. He tries to catch them ALL when on walks. He really would love to have a canine sibling, some playdates, or time in doggy daycare to burn off some of that puppy energy. He loves to roughhouse with other dogs, yet is also content entertaining himself if they need a break.
Reef’s other favorite pastimes include rolling onto his back for endless belly rubs (he’s a pro at getting pampered), offering his “help” with home projects (mostly just supervising), and playing with his ever-growing collection of stuffed toys. Reef LOVES toys…stuffed toys, hard chew toys, flirt pole, you name it. He is also fascinated with shadows and light patterns on the floor or walls and thinks they are something tangible. He tries to jump to reach them and will lick the floor where the sunlight falls across the floor. Hey, we all have our weird little quirks, don’t we? Reef basically has two speeds…either laying on the floor cat napping or he’s in motion and into everything. Sounds about right for a puppy!
Reef matches the environment that he is in, and his foster family’s house is generally quiet and laid back, so Reef’s behavior for a one-year-old dog is quite impressive. However, if he were to go to a home with kids, multiple dogs, and a lot of activity…he will be that typical puppy who is all over the place and into everything (which his foster family has seen firsthand). So, if your family sounds like the latter, then it’s important you have the time for proper training.
Speaking of training…this young, smart cutie is already house and crate-trained, and quiet when in the crate. While he’s still working on perfecting his housetraining (accidents happen), Reef is making great strides and loves his routine. He’s also a pro in his crate, where he happily settles down when unsupervised to prevent any puppy mischief. He is okay being left for a few hours, so his family doesn’t need to have someone home all the time, but he should be let out for a midday potty break. Once he’s a bit older, Reef could possibly go into the office with you as he just loves people. Right now, he is still young and very inquisitive, so he might get into things he shouldn’t.
Reef rarely barks and would be okay to live in an apartment or a house. While he may not bark a lot, he does get overstimulated with brooms, power tools, vacuums or wheeled things and he must be separated from these items when they are out…as he will jump 3-4 feet in the air trying to bite them!
Don’t have any Frenchie experience? Don’t worry, that’s not a requirement for this furry little guy, but it is important to know how to care for the breed. Since he has long fur (which isn’t standard for Frenchies), Reef does require regular bathing (more than an average Frenchie). His fur doesn’t get matted, but it does collect dirt/dust/leaves/mulch when he’s on walks. Reef doesn’t require a fenced yard and is okay being leash walked. One thing to make not of is that he does get car sick, so it would be best for him to not have to travel more than a couple of hours to his forever home. This means he also wouldn’t be a good dog for a family who travel by car a lot (like RVers).
Reef’s foster mom has this to say about him, “Reef is a happy go lucky one-year-old fluffball. He loves everyone and everything. He wants to be with people and will be a loyal companion. Like all one-year-old dogs, he will need continued obedience training so that he doesn’t develop any bad habits. He is very smart and receptive to redirection.”
