“Rocky is an absolute doll. The sweetest most gentle dog I’ve ever had, and he always looks so HAPPY. The neurologist told me, some dogs don’t do well after paralysis, but Rocky will “thrive.” And he is thriving!! He let me learn how to do bladder expression on him and was as patient as he could be. He’s funny, lovable, and honestly a very easy low maintenance pup, all things considered. Please don’t let his disability deter you from adopting him, he’s so worth the extra time and effort. Once you get used to the routine, it’s a piece of cake. His personality is amazing and I have gotten so much joy out of fostering him. It was a “Rocky road” for him at first, but he deserves the happiest ending.”

Story
Please welcome Rocky to the available page! Estimated to be around one year old, Rocky was found abandoned in a crate on the side of the road and brought to a shelter by a kind-hearted Good Samaritan. Despite his rough start, this sweet and spirited boy hasn’t let anything slow him down!
Despite a spinal injury that left his hind legs paralyzed, Rocky is one of the happiest pups you’ll ever meet. He’s fully mobile in his cart, surprisingly speedy in his drag bag indoors, and full of playful energy. His favorite activities include playing fetch, squeaking anything that squeaks, and showing off his favorite game of “keep away” with his tennis ball. He’s also a big cuddler and a devoted sidekick, always nearby and ready to offer a soft gaze or a silly grin. He may need a little help getting around stairs (read: he shouldn’t!), but otherwise, he’s an independent spirit with a strong will and an even stronger heart.
Rocky does wear a diaper and needs his bladder expressed three times a day, but his foster mom says it’s no big deal—and easy to learn. He has full bowel control and even lifts his leg to pee when he can, so this handsome guy is more capable than you might expect. He’s been incredibly easy to care for, and his joyful spirit makes it more than worth the small amount of extra effort.
He gets along beautifully with his canine foster siblings, both male and female, and while he can be a bit shy with new people at first, he warms up quickly. Rocky has not been around cats during his time in foster care, so unfortunately, feline friends are a no for this guy. We also don’t yet know how he does with children, but with his affectionate, sweet nature, we suspect he’d charm just about anyone given a gentle introduction. He’s a follower by nature, and would thrive in a home with loving humans who can appreciate just how special he is.
Rocky’s ideal home is stair-free and filled with patience, belly rubs, and squeaky toys. Experience with special needs pups is a plus, but not a must—just a willingness to learn. He’s already come so far and proven that no obstacle can hold him back. Now all he needs is a family to roll into his happily ever after.
Rocky’s foster mom has this to say about him, “Rocky is an absolute doll. The sweetest most gentle dog I’ve ever had, and he always looks so HAPPY. FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. Rocky is slightly too large to fly, so be prepared to road trip with a very cute companion if chosen.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
