Special Needs
Update on 11-20-2022 : We have sad news, beloved foster Storm has crossed over the rainbow bridge. At 11 years old, Storm’s health has been deteriorating for some time. When she began presenting with back to back seizures, the decision was made to gently let her go with foster mom at her side. Thank you to foster mom and everyone who helped give this sweet gal a soft landing in her final days.
“Storm is a ball of fire, a fighter. With all that has been handed to her, she still has spunk. She is a sweet dog despite her problems, she has overcome the ability of not seeing well, she gets around the house on her own, and is such a loving dog. She has taught me to never give up, she might be getting older but she has more spirit than I could ever describe!”
Lucky little Storm has blown over to the available page! Like many old gals, she has a few health considerations. She is on a variety of medications to help with incontinence, dry eyes, and liver support. Please read the ‘About Storm’ section below for more details about her conditions.
Storm’s medical file doesn’t slow her down one bit! She is very sweet and has overcome all of her health challenges. Foster mom reports that Storm has adjusted well to not having great vision and is able to get around the house on her own. Once she figures out where her toys are, she loves to play! Her favorite games include tug of war and chewing on bully sticks. Storm is great in her crate and will sleep in it even when someone is home.
Storm deserves the perfect forever family to spend her remaining years with. The ideal family would have plenty of time to devote to Storm’s care, with prior Frenchie experience preferred. She would do best in a house with very limited steps due to her lack of vision. A fenced in yard is preferable so that she can have some outdoor freedom. Storm requires a very strict potty schedule and will need someone home with her more often than not, though she can stay alone in her crate for a few hours.
Foster mom has this to say “Storm is a ball of fire, a fighter. With all that has been handed to her, she still has spunk. She is a sweet dog despite her problems, she has overcome the ability of not seeing well, she gets around the house on her own, and is such a loving dog. She has taught me to never give up, she might be getting older but she has more spirit than I could ever describe!”
If you think your family is the perfect fit for Storm, please submit your application today and tell us why! Storm anxiously awaits meeting you, but you’ll need to be prepared to travel to the Baltimore area. FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
Storm has been diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus and takes desmopressin daily. She takes Proin on a daily basis to help with incontinence and requires a strict potty schedule to reduce accidents in the home.
Storm is vision impaired and basically only sees shadows. She has been diagnosed with severe keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) and severe pigmentary keratitis. Storm takes Tacrolimus and cyclosporine drops daily, along with OptixCare Gel (OTC) for eye moisture. Her eyes must be monitored by a veterinary ophthalmologist. Storm must never be around small children.
Storm has several allergies and must remain on her current diet and have regular medicated baths. She has a previous history of skin, eye, ear, and bladder infections which must be monitored for recurrence. Storm’s liver enzymes (ALT) were elevated on 02.24.2021 and started on Dogzymes Liver Support. Her liver enzymes should be regularly checked.
Our 3-month-old Frenchie Junie has eye issues, too. We hope Storm gets the care she needs so that she can see in HD – and find a furever home!
For Storm in foster care! Good luck buddy!
Feel better precious storm!!
