Vanna

Special Needs
“Vanna would like nothing better than to be someone’s baby girl. Literally and figuratively, Vanna will lay in your arms like a baby, but she also needs monitoring like a baby. Vanna now knows love now and is eager for the attentiveness that comes along with that love.”
Vanna is ready to find her forever family! She was surrendered to FBRN from a commercial breeding situation and had spent most of her life living outdoors. Despite her rough start, Vanna is a total love-bug! Her favorite activities include watching out the window for neighborhood activities, and of course, keeping an eye on the wildlife. You may also find her sunbathing and soaking in the sunshine. When she’s not at home, she loves to ride in the car and observe her surroundings. Vanna also loves to snuggle her humans and fall asleep in their laps.
While Vanna loves her people, she was not well socialized as a puppy and has some social quirks. She prefers to stay close to her human, and is not interested in other people or dogs. She currently lives in a home with other dogs, but would do best as a single dog or possibly with a small, younger dog. She does demonstrate signs of separation anxiety, and will probably require medication long-term. This anxiety presents itself in Vanna by her initial reaction to people is to bark and run away or run towards them boldly. She is quick to become acquainted with visitors to her home if her foster mom gives the approval. Meeting people on neural territory works best initially. She also does not like to go on long trips in the car. Vanna’s ideal family would include a person who is home with her at least part-time.
On the health side, Vanna has hemivertebrae in her spine and her adoptive family should be careful to protect her back as she is at an increased risk for back issues. She must not be on furniture or near steps without assistance getting up and down. She must also be kept from jumping or playing too rough. Although Vanna’s back is delicate, she is blissfully unaware and is playful just like any young dog. She also loves going on walks, which helps keep her back and core strong. She is always at the head of the pack and has the cutest wiggle waggle when watching her from behind.
Vanna also needs help with elimination. She does not have any sensation of when she needs to eliminate, so her caregiver will need to learn how to express her bladder. Her foster mom reports that she is very easy to help express, and Vanna is very patient which makes the whole job quite a breeze. Diapers and clean-up will be part of her daily routine, very much like a baby. Vanna also has a sensitive stomach, but does well on her current food (Royal Canin) and supplements. Her forever family should continue this diet to ensure her comfort.
Vanna’s foster family says, “Vanna would like nothing better than to be someone’s baby girl. Literally and figuratively, Vanna will lay in your arms like a baby, but she also needs monitoring like a baby. If you are looking for a dog that will return your love and care with the sweetest looks, patience, and excitement of living a dog’s best life, then Vanna may be the dog for you.”
If Vanna sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please submit your application and tell us why. Vanna cannot wait to meet her forever family, and if yours is selected, then get ready for a road trip to Virginia! FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
Vanna was released from a puppy mill, her medical history is unknown.
Vanna has hind end weakness and must always be carried up and down stairs and must not be allowed to jump on or off the furniture.
Vanna has a history of urinary tract infections and bladder stones that must be monitored for recurrence.
Vanna has urinary and fecal incontinence and must be expressed daily.
Vanna has many allergies and other GI related issues. She must remain on canned Royal Canin HP diet. She must also remain on daily supplements of Synacore- digestive aid, Cranbladder Health, and VetriDisc.
Vanna gets very excited around food and should not be fed around small children.
From one Frenchie to another! Love Olive.
