About Beckett
If you follow FBRN’s social media channels, you probably know all about our brave boy Beckett. Now that he’s out of the hospital and on the road to recovery, it’s time for his debut on the website. So while he’s already captured the hearts of thousands, we’ll still give him an official (and very warm) welcome: say hello to Beckett!
If you’re not familiar with Beckett’s story, then be forewarned—it’s a hard one to stomach. Beckett was dumped at a pet store grooming facility in dire shape. The groomers were horrified at his condition, and even more horrified when his owners reported that they would not be returning for him, and cut off further contact. Beckett was nothing but skin and bones—malnourished, anemic, and so sick that he couldn’t stand up. He had blood in his urine and no control over his bowels. Fortunately, the pet store staff contacted us immediately, and signed him over to our care. And not a moment too soon, as we were genuinely afraid that Beckett wouldn’t make it through the night.
Thanks to an incredible emergency veterinary team and the financial generosity of our supporters, Beckett made it through that first night…and then another, and then another! After stabilizing his vitals, the veterinary team started him on a course of IV antibiotics to treat a severe urinary tract infection. Before long, he was eating and drinking like a champ, and a spark came back to those formerly lifeless eyes. After a week of care in the hospital, Beckett was ready for discharge into his foster home, where he continues to improve day by day. He’s not only standing, but walking and playing, and it turns out this boy has quite a bit of spunk!
Two things stand out about Beckett’s journey so far. The first is his resilience. This little dog has zero reason to trust humans, yet he greets everyone he meets with a wiggle and a lick. Despite everything he’s endured, his bright, sweet personality is undimmed. The second is the compassion of our friends and supporters. Beckett’s medical bills were upward of $14,000, but we were able to cover those fees because all of you gave so generously. Whether it was a financial donation or simply good thought going his way, your gifts helped save his life, and we are oh-so-grateful!
These days, Beckett—who we estimate to be about three years old—is eating and drinking well, and his energy is increasing on the daily. He loves playing with toys, and can’t get enough pets from his devoted foster mom. But Beckett still has a few challenges ahead of him. He has some congenital issues, most notably a malformed spine and continued fecal incontinence. (His vet team thinks he might be the offspring of two siblings, sigh). And it’s going to take some time to get him up to a healthy weight. Fortunately, Beckett has already proven to us that there’s no keeping him down, and we can’t wait to see him blossom into his best Frenchie self.
Beckett’s journey to a forever home will be longer than most, and there will still be a lot of vet visits in his future. If you’d like to make a donation toward his continued care, then just click on the “Donate” link and tell us it’s for Beckett. Our sincerest thanks to all of our supporters for the love and generosity you’ve shown him so far, and we promise to provide regular updates on his progress. Hugs and Frenchie kisses to all
