About Laken
Laken is athletic and smart as can be. She is potty trained, crate trained, and obedience trained! She learns new commands quickly and enjoys treat puzzles and lick mats. She loves to be outside and she’s never met a sunspot she doesn’t love. Healthwise, she has typical Frenchie allergies, but they are thankfully well controlled with medication. She is quite strong willed so she’s a pup that requires a firm pack leader, but with structure and a routine, she thrives.

“There is nothing better than seeing the joy on her face and wags of her cute tail the moment she sees you. She has such a bright personality that is silly and hilarious while stubborn and determined. She deserves the best forever home with someone who will continue to make use of her intelligence through training and games.”

Story
Laken is calling for a mulligan and knows her perfect match is out there. One who will be patient, consistent and take the time to develop a trusting relationship. Slow and steady is the key with this little lady. Laken has a history of anxiety and snapping at people when they touched her face or handled her in a manner which she deemed scary. With dedicated training in foster care, the snapping incidents have all but vanished and we have high hopes she will continue to progress even further with a behavior-savvy adopter. She must remain on Prozac and Gabapentin for her anxiety.
And boy is she worth having patience because to the victor belong the spoils. And Laken’s spoils include snuggles, smiles and stubby tail wags when greeting her people. She likes to take walks as long as there aren’t any dogs around so city life may be too crowded and busy for her. Laken finds other dogs very stimulating and in her middle age, she prefers a more relaxed lifestyle. She loves to be outside and bask in the sun, but if there is any chance of rain, you can find her lounging inside snug in a bed. A fenced yard is required because she has displayed prey drive and would easily run after something without a fence to stop her.
In addition to burrowing under blankets, Laken enjoys chewing on Nylabones, throwing her Snoop toy up in the air, and completing treat puzzles. One of the things Laken enjoys the least is going to the vet. If you have a vet who participates in cooperative care, tell us about that because that could really help her in the future. But due to her handling sensitivities, she will need to be sedated with trazadone before any vet visit.
Laken is athletic and smart as can be. She is potty trained, crate trained, and obedience trained! She learns new commands quickly and would love a family who will keep her mind active with continued training. She enjoys treat puzzles and lick mats. Because she has a history of resource guarding and snapping, she must never be around young children. She must also be an only dog due to her reactivity. She’s a girl who knows what she wants and that’s you all to herself! An adopter that has experience managing behavioral dogs and is committed to training would be ideal for this beautiful cow dog.
And her foster mom says it all, “There is nothing better than seeing the joy on her face and wags of her cute tail the moment she sees you. She has such a bright personality that is silly and hilarious while stubborn and determined. She deserves the best forever home with someone who will continue to make use of her intelligence through training and games.”
So if you like The Godfather Part II better than the original and can make a lifelong commitment to this sweet girl, submit an application and tell us how you will be Laken’s the happily ever after. She loves car rides and is too big for in-cabin plane travel so plan your trip to Philadelphia if chosen.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
