“She is like the combination of a sloth/polar bear walking. She may have a burst of energy here or there, but is pretty chill. She has beds in most rooms and just seeks those out where she can rest while waiting for her human. She is an excellent eater and appreciates snacks, but is not a real beggar. She is friendly and happy to share many kisses with anyone that asks for them. She really is not high maintenance and would love to just be part of a family that appreciates having a pet in their home, and that will give her love and affection.”

Story
If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick who’s mastered the fine art of lounging and leisure, allow us to introduce six-year-old River! This retired mill momma is ready to trade in her old life for the good life, complete with cozy naps, soft beds, and a human (or two) to call her own.
River is all about that chill lifestyle. She’s equal parts sweet and serene, with just the right amount of sass to keep you on your toes. Picture a sloth crossed with a tiny polar bear on a leisurely stroll—that’s River in motion. She’s perfectly content snoozing near her favorite human, casually keeping an eye on things, and taking the occasional leisurely jaunt outside.
While she’s not going to chase squirrels or win any agility contests, River does enjoy a short walk or a peaceful moment in the yard. But don’t be fooled, this girl knows how to make her presence known with a signature howl when you leave the house. Because of this, apartments aren’t her vibe, and a single-family home where she can make herself comfortable without worrying about thin walls and neighborly complaints.
Health-wise, River is doing great! Upon coming to FBRN she immediately went to the ER with closed pyometra so severe her poor uterus had expanded into her rib cage. She needed emergency surgery, but she came through it like a champ. She’s spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and has a mostly clean bill of health, with just typical Frenchie allergies and a touch of hind leg weakness. She’s on a special lamb-based diet (Canine Caviar, no less!) and gets regular allergy shots to keep her comfortable and fabulous.
River would thrive in a quiet home, whether with a single person, a couple, or a family with older kids who understand that she’s more into naps than Nerf wars. She’s fine with other calm dogs, though her real preference is soaking up all the human attention. Unfortunately, as she’s never been tested with cats, we have to place her in a kitty-free home.
Housebroken and crate-trained (though she’d rather not be crated all day, thank you very much), River is the kind of dog who would love an owner who works from home or can come back during the day for some mid-afternoon cuddles. And yes, she’d absolutely be the most charming office assistant you’ve ever had.
Her foster mom has this to say about her, “She is like the combination of a sloth/polar bear walking.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. River does very well in the car, so would not mind a road trip.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
