About Trixie
Meet Trixie, everyone! This pint-sized, 14.8lb blind mouse (yes, you heard that right, only 14.8lbs) has been living the high life in Indiana for almost a week now, all thanks to a group of incredible FBRN volunteers who chauffeured her across the country, from the East Coast to the heart of the Midwest.
Trixie is 7-years-young and came to FBRN after some tough life changes left her owner in a situation where they could no longer care for her. Now, here’s the kicker: Princess Trixie is totally blind, a condition she’s had since both her retinas detached at just one year old. But does that slow her down? Not for a second! She’s a pro at navigating her world using her sharp nose and ears.
On the medical side of things, we’re waiting to see what unfolds this week. It seems like Trixie’s been overdue for a vet check-up and some TLC. Last week, our local vet discovered a mysterious foreign object in her tummy, and they suspect it’s the culprit behind her trouble keeping food down. We’re hoping that once whatever’s causing the blockage is removed, her tummy troubles will be behind her. In the meantime, she’s got an Internal Medicine appointment coming up and will be getting her swollen lymph nodes checked out (with a biopsy under sedation) to rule out anything nefarious.
As if that weren’t enough, our sweet girl also seems to have suffered from untreated allergies for a long time. She’s got itchy, rashy, crusty skin, and a lot of fur loss on her back end. We’ve started medicated baths (which she’s NOT a fan of) with slow, but steady, progress. We’re also working on her ears, which are packed with hard wax, but thankfully, we’re getting some ear cleaner in soon. Her snout, though? It’s already loving the snout-soother and coconut oil, which is giving her some relief!
But here’s the real magic of Trixie—her personality. This little lovebug is a total calm, sweet sugar bean. She’s got eyes that seem to see right through you—even though she’s actually blind! Every time she gazes at you, it’s like she’s staring straight into your soul. While she’s still adjusting to her blindness in a new environment with new people, she’s making amazing progress every single day. While she loves exploring her new surroundings, her absolute favorite thing is being glued to humans.
So, yeah, Trixie’s had a bit of a rough start, but she’s the sweetest little fighter you’ll ever meet. Watch this space, because this girl is going places! If you would like to sponsor her during her time in foster care, please click the Donate link above.
