About Abbott
Some dogs take the scenic route to their forever home, and Abbott is one of them. Found as a stray on a busy Massachusetts street last summer, Abbott landed in a shelter before FBRN swooped in to give him the care he so desperately needed. And it’s a good thing we did—because at his first vet check, doctors discovered a stage 4 heart murmur. A visit to the cardiologist revealed severe pulmonic stenosis, a congenital condition Abbott had been living with since birth.
But Abbott is no quitter! Specialists evaluated him for a balloon valvuloplasty, a procedure usually done on younger pups, and a CT angiogram was ordered to make sure there were no complications. While they were at it, he also had airway surgery to help him breathe easier and take some of the strain off his heart.
True to form, Abbott made it through surgery like a champ, but recovery was a bit of a rollercoaster. He struggled with anesthesia and developed stage 2 laryngeal collapse, requiring a temporary tracheal tube to help him breathe. Thankfully, after a few nerve-wracking days, the tube came out, and Abbott was cleared to go home.
Given his complex medical needs and the risks of further procedures, it was ultimately decided that Abbott would move to hospice status. But don’t feel sorry for him—because this boy hit the jackpot! He’s staying put with the incredible foster family that has loved and cared for him since day one. And Abbott? He’s all in on this arrangement, showering them with affection and soaking up every ounce of love.
Life may have thrown some obstacles his way, but Abbott’s story is one of resilience, love, and finding home in the most unexpected places. And if you ask him? He’ll tell you he’s exactly where he’s meant to be.
Let’s talk abbott Abbott. Abbott’s a fawn/merle boy who is abbott 2 to 3 years old. His time was abbott up at the shelter, until he found himself with FBRN. We don’t know a bunch abbott Abbott – he was picked up as a stray. Let’s talk about what we do know. Abbott is handsome – so very much so, all the ladies swoon when he enters the room. Abbott is charming – so much so that he has already won the heart of his Foster Mom, who loves to snuggle with him. And while Abbott loves having a Costello, he is also fine with lounging alone. We also know Abbott is a pretty chill guy – he hasn’t figured out toys just yet – but he loves belly rubs and going for walks. He does quite well on a leash, although he can get excited if he sees other dogs walking by.
Since we don’t know much abbott Abbott, he will have to see the vet soon and get a medical assessment. We think he may have some allergies to get under control, a little heavy breathing to tend to, and well – he will have to lose a few peaches, if you know what I mean (but let’s not talk abbott that in front of Abbott). Although Abbott has come so far in just a matter of days, he definitely has a long way to go.
