Story
Miss Peaches has made her way to the available page! She originally arrived in FBRN care due to her medical condition and inability to walk. We’re excited to say that between the gift of time and some TLC, Peaches has regained some mobility and barely uses her cart anymore! Maybe it’s your home that Peaches will walk into?
As sweet as the fruit she’s named after, Peaches loves everyone. This girl doesn’t have a mean bone in her body! She enjoys the resident dogs and children in her foster home. Any children in her forever home should be dog savvy and old enough to understand that Peaches currently has limitations due to her medical condition. That said, Peaches is a calm, laid back, happy camper of a dog who would enjoy the company of just about anyone! Peaches is also an expert couch potato.
While Peaches has impressive lounging skills, we’re in awe of her walking on her own! Her foster mom says she has about 50-70% mobility depending on her speed and the surface she’s on. Hardwood floors are hard for Peaches, but she does just fine with mats or rugs. Peaches’ ideal home will have a yard for her to frolic in and continue building her strength. While a fence is preferred, it isn’t necessary. Because Peaches still drags her feet while walking, she shouldn’t be on pavement unless in her cart.
Peaches enjoys wandering around the yard and taking in the sights and sounds of nature. She will occasionally chew on a stuffy or chew toy. She doesn’t need serious exercise, just regular walks to make sure she stays active and to keep her legs moving. She also enjoys a good game of bitey-face with her fur-siblings, but she’s more on the submissive side and doesn’t love it when her fur-siblings “growl” during play. However, Peaches still does her best to get involved in the games her foster siblings play!
Peaches will need a special home with someone who can spend the time needed to provide her with continued care. A stay-at-home person isn’t necessary, but Peaches should not be left alone for more than 6 hours at a time. Currently, Peaches is incontinent and needs her bladder expressed several times a day. If diapers are used for her fecal incontinence, then just like any baby, Peaches must be wiped and changed regularly. There are also exercises that should be done daily and she needs time, both in and out of her cart, to help build her strength. Spending time out of her cart has been key in helping her regain mobility.
Though Peaches has regained some mobility, she will still need to be carried up and down the stairs. So, a single-story home is ideal. Since Peaches loves to go anywhere with her people, and she’s very well behaved, she would be a great office companion. Although, we cannot guarantee increased office productivity!
Peaches’ foster mom has this to say about her, “Peaches may seem like a high-maintenance girl, but she’s a sweet one! She hasn’t been dealt a fair hand, but she has a great attitude and is working hard to overcome her limitations.”
If you’re looking to add something sweet to your life, and you can provide the care and experience necessary for Peaches, then all you need to do is fill out an application! After that, just be ready to pick her up in Northern Virginia, should you be selected as her forever home.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people’s private homes. For the foster families’ safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don’t set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
About Peaches
Peaches suffered from hind end paralysis but has regained some mobility. She can walk on her own on certain surfaces. Peaches has a cart but rarely uses it. On surfaces like pavement, Peaches should use her cart to avoid scraping herself. She had surgeries for two ruptured discs while in FBRN’s care, on 5.28.2022 and 6.24.2022 respectively. She must always be carried up and down stairs and must not be allowed to jump off furniture. She must remain on daily Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements.
Peaches has a history of urinary tract infections, including a drug-resistant Staph, that must be monitored for recurrence. She must remain on daily D-Mannose supplements.
